Just For Children operates justforchildren.net. We are a small organization and we collect as little information as we can. This page explains exactly what we collect, who processes it on our behalf, and how to ask us to remove it.

Who we are

Just For Children is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 84-3688719. Our contact details are at the bottom of this page. We are the data controller for the information described here.

What we collect

When you donate. Our donation form collects your name, your email address, and the amount you choose to give. We keep a record of the donation so that we can send you a receipt, thank you, and meet our record-keeping obligations as a nonprofit.

Your card details never reach us. Payment card information is entered directly into a secure field hosted by our payment processor, Stripe. It is transmitted to Stripe and never passes through or is stored on our website. We can see only the last four digits, the card brand, and whether the payment succeeded.

When you visit the site. Our web host keeps standard server logs, which record IP addresses, browser type, the pages requested, and the time of the request. These are used for security and troubleshooting. We do not run advertising trackers, social media pixels, or third-party analytics on this website.

Email we send you. Donation receipts and replies are delivered through our email provider, SendLayer. SendLayer records whether a message was delivered, and currently also records whether it was opened and whether links in it were clicked. We use this only to confirm that receipts are actually arriving.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We do not share donor lists with other organizations.

Who processes information for us

We use a small number of service providers, each of which handles only what it needs to do its job:

• Stripe — processes donations and handles all payment card data. See Stripe’s privacy policy.
• SendLayer — delivers our receipts and notification emails.
• Hostinger — hosts this website and stores its database and server logs.

We may also disclose information where we are required to by law, or where it is necessary to investigate fraud or protect someone’s safety.

Cookies

This site sets only the cookies it needs to function. WordPress uses cookies to keep administrators logged in and to remember form input. Our caching software may set a cookie to serve pages faster. Stripe sets cookies on the donation page to detect and prevent fraud, which is a necessary part of processing a payment safely.

We do not use cookies for advertising, profiling, or cross-site tracking.

How long we keep it

We keep donation records for as long as we are required to for tax, accounting, and audit purposes, which for a nonprofit in the United States is generally at least seven years. Server logs are kept for a short period and then discarded. If you ask us to delete your information, we will do so except where we are legally required to keep a record of a donation.

Your choices

You can ask us to send you a copy of the information we hold about you, correct it if it is wrong, or delete it. You can also ask us to stop contacting you. Write to us using the details below and we will respond as quickly as we can. We are a small volunteer team, so please allow up to thirty days.

Donation receipts are transactional rather than marketing, so we will always send you one when you give. We do not send a newsletter or marketing email from this website.

Children’s privacy

Our work serves children, but this website is intended for adults who wish to support that work. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under thirteen. If you believe a child has given us information through this website, contact us and we will delete it.

Photographs and stories about the children we serve are published only with the permission of a parent or guardian.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Significant changes will be noted here rather than made quietly.
